Our Sunshine Shopping List
Not renowned for our sunny climes, us Brits can sometimes struggle to get all the vitamin D our body needs to protect bones, teeth and muscle, as well as our mental health, it is thought.
But when overcast skies rule superior, how do we keep our bodies topped up with the 'happy' nutrient?
We recommend the following for a pick-me-up...
Super Sardines
Oily fish like sardines and mackerel are not only high in essential omega-3 fatty acids, but are a great source of soluble sunshine!
Try simply grilling or cooking in a spicy tomato sauce with our fresh sourdough dunked, just for good measure...
Ox Liver & Offal
Ox liver can make up for your missed hours of sunshine in greyer months.
Not only this, but beef is a top source of vitamin B-12 and offal is incredibly high in iron.
That's a win-win in our book!
Duck, Goose & Game
There's a very special selection of red meat to give your vitamin D levels a hike while the sun hides...
Enjoy our organic duck and goose, wild pheasant and venison for a D-elicious boost.
Kippers
Organic smoked kippers might be an old school favourite, but they are most certainly making a comeback!
Cook up a kedgeree first thing for an early morning vitamin D dose.
Organic Eggs
One medium egg on average provides 18% off your RDA of vitamin D – they are a powerhouse of the so-called ‘sunshine vitamin’.
Poached, boiled, scrambled, so long as that nutrient-packed yolk is present, your body will benefit.
