Enjoy an afternoon tea this Afternoon Tea Week with Clipper…

Nothing brings the British together like a cup of tea. Whilst we never need an excuse to pop the kettle on, Afternoon Tea Week is a great chance to enjoy a cup (and perhaps a biscuit or two!). Clipper Tea combine great tasting tea with ethical sourcing and natural production, so you can enjoy your afternoon cuppa at ease. If you’re planning to celebrate the long-standing British tradition of afternoon tea this coming Afternoon Tea Week, let us introduce of top Clipper picks…

Afternoon Tea Week

The British custom of finger food, sweet and savoury snacks and a pot of tea, known as Afternoon Tea, is the perfect way to catch up with friends and family and to relax and unwind. And there’s no better time to do so than during Afternoon Tea Week, which runs from the 8th to 14th of August. Whether you host tea with your closest friends, run a bigger celebration with the whole family or opt to go out for your afternoon tea, use the second full week of August to celebrate such togetherness and historical social customs.

A Brief History

Taking afternoon tea has been part of British history since the mid 19th century when it became fashionable as a social event amongst ladies of the time. It was the new Duchess of Bedford that popularised the habit, as she got hungry during the long afternoon between lunch and dinner. She would ask for a tray of bread, butter and cake in the mid-afternoon and soon took to inviting friends to join her. The Duchess, Anna Maria Russell, was acquainted with Queen Victoria so the trend soon took off!

Clipper Tea

Clipper Tea was the brilliant idea of husband and wife Mike and Lorraine Brehme, who started with two chests of Assam tea in their Dorset kitchen back in 1984. Now, the team produce over 150 different types of ethically sourced and naturally created tea in more than 50 countries. Clipper was the first UK tea company to be certified Fairtrade in 1994, and are actually the world’s largest buyer of Fairtrade tea.

They’re also the first tea company in the UK to switch to plant-based, biodegradable and non-GM, unbleached teabags and packaging, ensuring there are no nasties in their organic tea. Not only this, but their exterior packaging is also fully biodegradable or recyclable. Their organic tea contains nothing artificial and are, of course, 100% organic. Certified by the Soil Association and Great Taste Award winning, you are guaranteed only the best with Clipper Tea.

Pop the Kettle On

Although we don’t often say no to trying new varieties, there are some sure favourites of Clipper in the Eversfield Organic office. Top of our list is a classic, Clipper Breakfast Tea Bags. Their special, refreshing blend of organic Assam and Ceylon tea leaves offers a full-bodied brew that goes down well at any time of day with our team. Clipper Earl Grey Tea Bags are also a strong choice (almost as strong as we like our tea!), a lighter choice that is refreshing with citrus and bergamot flavours. For something naturally caffeine free (admittedly, we often do need a caffeine hit!), the preferred choice is the crisp, clean and cool Clipper Peppermint Tea.
