Breakfast at the Dartmoor Inn, Merrivale

For a while now, it’s only been those who have booked a room at the Eversfield Organic Dartmoor Inn, Merrivale that have been able to experience a delicious, organic breakfast. But now, we’re able to offer breakfast at the Dartmoor Inn for everyone, from morning dog walkers (furry friends are welcome too) to holiday makers and workday commuters. Breakfast at the Dartmoor Inn, Merrivale is available from Wednesday to Sunday between 7:30am and 11:00am.

What’s On Offer?

Just like our traditional menu, the Dartmoor Inn’s breakfast menu is 100% organic or wild, sourcing ingredients from our organic farm just 20 miles away, or from a small selection of local producers. We’re extremely proud of our organic meat, so naturally this is on show on our breakfast menu as well as our classic menu. Organic, grass-fed steak sits beside organic eggs, mushrooms and tomato in the Eversfield Organic steak breakfast, aptly named The King’s Tor. If a full English is more your thing, find organic sausages and organic bacon alongside the full trimmings in The Great Staple. The inn also offers wild fish in our smoked salmon & scrambled eggs on toast.

For those looking for a lighter breakfast, or perhaps a healthier choice, the Dartmoor Inn also presents smashed avocado with chili, coriander and lemon paired with poached egg on sourdough toast. A simpler (but just as yummy) choice may be our creamy scrambled eggs on toast, finished with a helping of peashoots. The Rambler, a porridge dish topped with honey and blueberries, is a great gluten-free and vegan alternative with The Hiker’s Trail offering a nutritious choice of organic yoghurt with fresh organic fruit and nuts.

Why the Dartmoor Inn?

Our 17th century inn located in the heart of Dartmoor partners stunning views of the open moorland with a 100% organic and wild dining experience. The Dartmoor Inn, Merrivale is situated between Tavistock and Princetown, settled beneath the surrounding Tors and presenting the prefect backdrop for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

As we mentioned before, the organic food served at the inn comes straight from our family farm only a short drive from the Dartmoor Inn itself. We also work with a small handful of local, artisan producers, believing that supporting local businesses results in a multitude of positive offshoots.

Our organic breakfast is great for fuelling a long morning walk (or gentle stroll) across the moor, or just as good as a filling post-walk feast. All of the organic food is freshly cooked by our very own butcher-turned-chef Frank, who actually makes the very bacon he cooks with in our farm butchery. With Frank overseeing the important field to fork journey, it’s no surprise that he’s so passionate about serving up the best breakfast possible.

In addition, the restaurant helps us to continue our closed-loop sustainability system and zero-waste efforts. Once our Eversfield Organic branded, refrigerated delivery vans have dropped off the organic produce to the Dartmoor Inn, they load any food waste back onto the vans. These then make their way back to our organic farm to be composted at our Market Garden in true circle of life style.

Eat Your Flowers

Not only do the breakfasts at the Dartmoor Inn, Merrivale present a delicious, nutritious start to the day, but they are also a feast for the eyes. As well as the organic vegetables grown at our Market Garden (used to create a tasty side salad to our organic steak), the team of gardeners work to produce beautiful, edible flowers to garnish our organic dishes.

The breakfasts at the Dartmoor Inn are a prime example of these edible garnishes, offering a combination of beauty and substance. Although they add the finishing touch to our organic food, as they are grown in organic soils it also means they are packed with antioxidants, vitamins and minerals.

Our selection of edible flowers includes Nasturtiums, Borage and Cornflower, grown on our organic farm. Nasturtiums are identifiable by their vividly coloured flowers which, alongside their leaves and seedpods, have a peppery taste perfect for accompanying greens. Borage is officially classed as a herb, with blue flowers that are slightly cucumber-like in taste. Borage is known for its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. Cornflower, like Borage, is also a pretty blue colour and is a great immunity booster. Their lightly spiced taste with a subtle sweetness makes them a great garnish for both dishes and drinks.
