A Chocolate a Day…

World Chocolate Day with Seed & Bean

At Eversfield Organic, it doesn’t take much to convince us to nibble on some organic chocolate. In fact, you have to move pretty quickly to even get one square in our office. With World Chocolate Day, a universal celebration of all things cocoa inspired, next week on July 7th we’d love to tell you a little more about one of our favourite sweet tooth satisfiers: Seed and Bean.

Sweet Beginnings

Seed and Bean was born from the need to fill a gaping hole in the British confectionary market – a tasty range of chocolate with ethics at its core. Their unique name stemmed from the idea to cover an assortment of seeds and beans with the highest of quality, ethically sourced and slightly wild-flavoured chocolate.

Since 2005, the Seed and Bean family have been working to improve their range of handmade, 100% organic and Fairtrade (where possible) products. They also work with small scale suppliers to become one of most ethical chocolate producers in Britain. And with this, their dream is quickly becoming reality.

Artisan and Innovating

Seed and Bean pride themselves on being an artisan producer, along with continuing to innovate the ethical side of their business practices (and experimenting with new flavours). Their small production facility right here in England ensures their artisanal status, producing small batches of chocolate in efforts to avoid the mass production of industrial producers.

All of their ingredients are Soil Association certified organic, meaning they are plucked from pesticide and artificial fertiliser-free soils, from farms with heightened animal welfare standards that provide their organic milk, and with boosted wildlife. Not only this, but organic products are proven to have higher nutritional value, packed full of antioxidants and free from chemicals. We’re not saying chocolate is always the healthiest choice, but organic chocolate is a step in the right direction. The chocolatiers also work with Fairtrade suppliers where possible (16 out of 18 of their chocolates are certified Fairtrade), ensuring everyone is looked after.

The company are also at the forefront of the zero plastic, zero waste initiative, becoming the first UK chocolate brand to have fully compostable packaging. The outer recyclable wrapper is now accompanied by a 100% compostable inner foil made from a specially sourced film of eucalyptus wood pulp called Natureflex. The foil can be placed in your home compost bin for a truly guilt-free treat inside and out.
