You can't beat freshly baked bread at breakfast time, or any time for that matter. When you bake a loaf for yourself the satisfaction as well as the flavour is first rate.
This simple soda bread uses just 3 ingredients and is a great way to start your baking journey.

Ingredients
450g wholemeal plain flour
1 tsp bicarbonate of soda
350ml buttermilk
Directions
Place the ingredients into a large bowl, stir together then form into a flattened round ball.
Using a knife mark a deep cross in the top and prick each quarter.
Place into a preheated oven and bake at 230C for 15 minutes.
Turn the oven down to 180C and bake for a further 15 minutes.
Take the bread out of the oven, turn the loaf over then bake upside down for another 10-15 minutes.
Check the loaf is ready by tapping the bottom, it must sound hollow.
Leave to cool and serve with thick, creamy butter
