Christmas Wine Pairings
You’ve selected your organic Christmas centrepiece, all the trimmings and sweet treats you could need. Decorations furnish the house, and gifts have been purchased for the whole family, so what is left to be done to put the cherry on top of the proverbial fruit cake? Well, stocking up your cellar from our organic Wine Cave is an essential step. Don’t know what to pick? Read on to discover our recommended pairings certain to breathe extra life into your Christmas.
For the Feast
You may be lucky enough to find yourself with one of our sumptuous organic turkeys at your table this year, if so, it’s important you select the perfect wine to wash down each juicy bite. Due to the boldness and complexity of flavours such as cranberry, bacon, stuffing and Brussels sprouts which are likely to be occupying your plate, we recommend selecting a wine which has the adequate acidity to cope. Our choice of red to complement this bird is the Walnut Block Nutcracker Pinot Noir. Deliciously fragrant, with cherry, plum and seasonal spice aromas, the savoury overtones represent a fine companion for your turkey dinner. Or if you prefer a white wine option, look no further than Chateau Dudon Sauternes. This French wine is rich and mellow with an extended freshness, a divine pour alongside succulent white meat.
If you’ve decided to delve into our grass-fed organic beef selection this year, we’ve got a selection of tipples that will seamlessly complete the feast. A slow rear and a 100% organic diet mean that our 28-day dry-aged Trimmed Rib of Beef has extra intra-muscular fat marbling. Having this rich flavour locked into the meat means a young and tannic wine like our Novas Carmenere Cabernet Sauvignon is a strong choice. Alternatively, our Ijalba Reserva Rioja certainly stakes a claim for your attention, providing a smooth, elegant sip which is backed up by hints of herbs and dark chocolate flavourings. Another candidate is our Chateau Rochecolombe Cotes du Rhone which brings a mouthful of weighty, warming spice.
Much like our award-winning beef, our magnificent lamb joints pair seamlessly with Cabernet Sauvignon and Rioja. However, if you’re after a white wine, we love the Domaine Philippe Goulley Petit Chablis for its delightful citrus vibrancy and dryness.
Constructing the ultimate festive cheeseboard? Well, depending on which flavours you are looking to include, a suitable organic wine is a must-have. We have a number of wines to accompany our extensive range of organic cheese. If you’re going cheddar-heavy with your board, then once again our Carbernet Sauvignon warrants a mention alongside the medium-bodied Les Petites Perdrix Sauvignon Blanc. Go for Casal Jordoes Finest Reserve Port with stilton, Franciacorta Brut Animante with brie, and for a double Gloucester, look no further than Pinot Noir.
What's not to love?
Our range of organic chocolate from our friends at Seed & Bean means there are plenty of sweet treats to get stuck into this Christmas. It also means there are further opportunities to experience our wines with differently. We love Riesling alongside white chocolate, Chateau De La Marjoliere Cahors Malbec with milk chocolate, and Pinot Noir with dark chocolate.
