Why Do Dry January?
What is Dry January? Well, this relatively new challenge is a public health campaign used to encourage people to give up alcohol for the month of January. Much like Veganuary, many partake in the Dry January Challenge to kick-start their year with purpose. Others may take up the challenge as a post-Christmas detox, for a healthier body and mind or maybe even for a healthier wallet.
Why do Dry January? There are many benefits of Dry January, such as helping overall body health inside and out, boosting energy levels and mood, helping with sleep, and as alluded to above, helping to save money. In terms of generally improved health, the Dry January Challenge can help to lower blood pressure, reduce diabetes risk, lower cholesterol and can lower the number of cancer-related proteins in the blood. And arguably most importantly, the challenge can help people to drink alcohol more healthily all year, forming good habits that can last more than just a month.
