Moooving Day on the Farm

Our herd of Aberdeen Angus are heading outside, and they couldn’t be happier…

The past few weeks on the Eversfield Organic Farm have been full of excitement for our herd of heritage Aberdeen Angus cattle. After a few months of keeping warm in our spacious sheds, chomping on our preserved organic pasture, the herd are heading out to the fields. In our organic fields, they’ll spend a minimum of 200 days munching the organic grass in their 100% organic diet. And trust us when we say, they couldn’t be more excited about it (keep reading for video evidence!).

About our Herd

Looking after our almost 300-strong herd of native Aberdeen Angus is one of our top priorities on the Eversfield Organic Farm. As a Soil Association certified organic farm, we follow the strict guidelines set out by the Soil Association to ensure the highest standard of animal welfare. And since our certification back in 2004, our farmer and founder Mark has been working with the Rare Breeds Survival Trust to rear and expand our herd.

Our friendly and inquisitive Aberdeen Angus are fed a 100% pasture diet, with both our farm and on-site butchery certified by Pasture for Life. This means they can grow at a more natural pace, living a longer and happier life. As cattle are naturally designed to digest pasture, feeding them grains and soils intended to pack on weight leaves them most upset. So, by feeding them on only pasture, allowing for a minimum of 200 days outdoors and a completely natural life keeps them happy and healthy. As a result, they suffer from less disease, which means routine antibiotics are not needed. Plus, the vitamin E in their 100% grass fed diet can help boost their localised immune response.

When the cattle make their way inside our spacious sheds for the winter, they munch on preserved pasture from our very own farm. We like to keep their time inside as short as possible (only keeping them inside when it’s very cold and wet during winter), and when they head back out their happiness is second-to-none! Check out our latest YouTube video below to see the joy first-hand.

Great British Beef

As we mentioned, our healthy pasture on the organic farms makes our herd of cattle as healthy and happy as can be. Their natural lifestyle and slow development makes for a beautifully marbling throughout the final cut of organic beef. These organic meats have fewer saturated fats and higher levels of healthy fats, including omega-3 fatty acids. Not only this, but our organic, grass fed beef is filled with other health benefits, such as higher levels of essential vitamins and minerals.
