Award-winning: Great Taste ★★★ · Taste of the West Gold ↓

Our organic whole chickens are slow-grown and raised freely in the beautiful Devon countryside. This natural lifestyle results in truly flavourful and succulent meat, perfect for oven roasting or butterflying for the grill or barbecue.

Each whole chicken comes with giblets, conveniently placed inside the cavity. These are perfect for making stock or enhancing other recipes. Be sure to remove the giblets before cooking or roasting.

How To Store

Our whole chicken is delivered fresh in an insulated box. They are butchered fresh to order and will arrive with an 3-day shelf life (including the day of delivery). We recommend for these to be stored below 4 degrees or alternatively, you can pop them in the freezer for up to 6 months.

Our Farms & Suppliers

Our super organic chicken farmer, Ross, is based in the hills of Honiton, Devon on a family-run farm supplying some of the finest organic poultry in the country. The chickens are reared in small flocks with open fields to roam and forage, where they can enjoy a peaceful and happy life, scratching and pecking for their own tasty treats. In addition, they are fed a 100% organic diet and kept cosy at night in warm shelters, free from the routine use of antibiotics. With more than 40 years of animal welfare experience and a Soil Association certification, you can really taste the difference with these organic chickens. Because they are slow-grown and well-fed, our chickens are meaty, perfect for family meals. The organic chicken wings and succulent, tasty, and great to keep cooked in the fridge for a healthy snack!

How To Cook

We recommend:

Classic Roast Whole Chicken

Ingredients:

  • 1 whole chicken
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil or melted butter
  • 1 lemon, cut into wedges
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh rosemary or thyme (or 1 teaspoon dried)
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 onion, quartered
  • 2 carrots, peeled and cut into chunks
  • 2 celery stalks, cut into chunks
  • 1 cup chicken stock (or water)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Chicken:

    • Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 220°C (200°C fan)/425°F/Gas Mark 7.
    • Clean: Remove any giblets from the cavity of the chicken and pat the chicken dry with paper towels.
  2. Season:

    • Rub: Rub the entire chicken with olive oil or melted butter.
    • Season: Season generously inside and out with salt and pepper.
    • Stuff: Place lemon wedges, minced garlic, and fresh herbs inside the cavity.
  3. Prepare the Roasting Pan:

    • Vegetables: Arrange the onion, carrots, and celery in the bottom of a roasting pan. This creates a flavourful bed for the chicken and helps keep it from sticking.
    • Add Liquid: Pour the chicken stock or water into the pan.
  4. Roast the Chicken:

    • Cooking Times:
      • 1.4 kg chicken: Roast for 1 hour 15 minutes to 1 hour 30 minutes
      • 1.6 kg chicken: Roast for 1 hour 30 minutes to 1 hour 45 minutes
      • 1.8 kg chicken: Roast for 1 hour 45 minutes to 2 hours
    • Use a meat thermometer to check the internal temperature; it should reach 75°C (165°F) at the thickest part of the thigh, avoiding the bone.
  5. Rest and Serve:

    • Rest: Remove the chicken from the oven and let it rest for 10-15 minutes before carving. This allows the juices to redistribute and makes the meat more tender.
    • Carve: Carve the chicken and serve with the roasted vegetables and any other desired side dishes.
  6. Enjoy: Your beautifully roasted whole chicken with these simple yet delicious sides for a classic and satisfying meal!

FAQs

Our Meat

Is your meat organic and certified?

At Eversfield Organic we are proud of our Soil Association organic certification. Additionally, we offer Pasture Fed Livestock Association (PFLA) certified (those reared on our farm) and 100% grass-fed (those from surrounding farms) meat, making all our produce trustworthy. In addition, every cut of meat you buy from us can be traced back to the very animal it came from, excellently produced by our skilled ethical butchers.

Do you use antibiotics?

Under organic standards, we will never administer routine antibiotics. However, if any of our animals need medical attention, we will of course act accordingly to get them back up to full health. Animals treated with antibiotics will then see out an extended withdrawal period to make sure antibiotic resistance does not enter the food chain.

How is the meat butchered?

Our organic meat arrives at the farm from small, family-run abattoirs, local to the farm on which the animals were raised to minimise the stress of live travel time. Our butchers carefully prepare the organic beef and lamb for dry aging while organic pork and poultry goes straight into our butchery. We only ever butcher to order – our meat never sits in plastic packaging as we only cut a product from its primal once it has been ordered by a customer.

Our freshly cut organic steaks, roasting joints, mince, sausages and more are all butchered, prepared and packed within 48 hours.

Who delivers my order and when will I know my time slot?

We work with DPD for deliveries and will choose the most efficient delivery option for you. You will be notified of your 1 hour delivery slot on the morning of your delivery. This will be sent by SMS and/or email depending on the details you have provided with your order. If you wish to input any special delivery instructions please do so via the notification or download the courier’s app.

What if I’m not home?

If no one is available at your address to take delivery of your order it will be left at a safe and convenient place, which you have specified to us in your order. If the products cannot be left at a safe and convenient location, or you are not in, our courier will leave your products either with a neighbour, or in a place which the courier determines to be suitable.

Packaging & Storage

How long will my order stay cold?

Packaging will keep perishable goods safe for 48 hours. Perishable goods must be consumed, frozen or refrigerated within 48 hours from the time of pack.

Is your packaging recyclable?

We choose to use reusable sustainable packaging for all our deliveries. Our cardboard boxes are made from recycled pulp and can be recycled in most domestic recycling schemes. Our veg is packed in compostable trays and paper bags. We pack our groceries with ’Woolcool’ liners. These natural sheepswool liners are sustainable, biodegradable and compostable, but we would rather reuse them along with our ice packs. So please send them back to us with a free DPD label, downloadable below. Help us make our reuse scheme sustainable by sending back a minimum of 4 sets of liners and ice packs each time.

How should I store raw meat?

Store in your refrigerator below 5°C, on the bottom shelf. Store meat in the bottom of the fridge – the coldest area. This also means that if any juices leak, they won’t run onto other foods. It’s usually best to store the meat in its original packaging. If you open the packet, transfer to an air tight, food safe container. Eat within 3 to 5 days.

Ordering

Will the weight be exactly as listed?

Although we have made every effort to be as accurate as possible, because our products are handmade, all sizes, weights, capacities, dimensions and measurements indicated on our website have a 5% tolerance. You will not be charged or refunded for variations in weight of products within this tolerance.

What if an item is unavailable?

Where you have ordered a product which we cannot provide (by way of example, because it is a perishable product which would not be edible by the time it is delivered to you) we may, at our sole discretion, provide a substitute of that product which we believe to be similar or materially identical to the product you ordered. You will not be charged additional fees for substituted products. Before making a substitution we may attempt to contact you by telephone or email to confirm the substitution with you.

Can I cancel my order?

You cannot cancel any order that contains perishable products (for example, meat) after 9am one week before the delivery date you specify in your order.

Can I return perishable items?

For the avoidance of doubt, perishable products (such as meat) once dispatched for delivery cannot be returned.

If you have subscribed to receive products on a recurring basis, we will take payment from the payment details you provide to us seven days before the date of despatch.

You may redeem only one promotional code per transaction and promotional codes cannot be redeemed in conjunction with any other promotion or discount.
