Tavistock’s Great Goosey Gander

The Coronavirus lockdown forced the closure of the high street and saw many ditch their local supermarket in favour of a home food delivery, like we offer at Eversfield Organic. However, after such a tumultuous year it’s more important than ever to support small, independent high street businesses.

Fiver Fest

From the 10th-24th of October 2020, Totally Locally are bringing back their very successful Fiver Fest in which independent local businesses put on £5 offers across two weeks. The idea behind the campaign is to showcase and celebrate the UK’s amazing small businesses and local shops, who play a vital part in the country’s economy. Fiver Fest is for small retailers only, aiming to level the playing field and lend a helping hand to those who directly contribute to the local economy of their town. As Totally Locally put it; “because supporting each other makes a thriving local economy.”

The Great Goosey Gander

To compliment Fiver Fest, the market town of Tavistock are running their Great Goosey Gander, offering the locals a chance to explore the high street. This is in response to the first ever cancellation of Tavistock’s historic annual Goose Fair, which dates all the way back to the 12th century. Spirits refuse to be dampened, however, with organisers seizing this opportunity to create a local event that will engage the community and emphasise the importance of shopping locally.

How We’re Helping Out

The Great Goosey Gander begins Saturday 10th October through Saturday 17th October, upon which Eversfield Organic’s Tavistock Farm Shop will be hosting a BBQ to round up the event. If you’ve been wanting to try our award-winning, 100% grass-fed organic meat, this is the perfect opportunity to sample produce straight from the grill. We will be offering bacon and sausage baps, beef steak burgers and pork and apple burgers, alongside meat-free alternatives – perfect for feeding the whole family.

Additionally, our 100% organic local farm shop in Tavistock will be offering 6 rashers of smoked or unsmoked bacon, 6 free-range eggs and a small sourdough loaf all for just £5. As a thank you to the local community and appreciation of custom, this fantastic offer will be in place for the whole of Fiver Fest until the 24th October.

Our Tavistock Farm Shop

The Fiver Fest campaign in February of this year saw over 100 towns and thousands of independent, family-run businesses joining, creating a buzz among local media outlets and boosting Tavistock news. As a proud member of the Tavistock Business Improvement District (BID), aiming to encourage shoppers back to their high street, we will be joining many other local businesses showcasing the best home-grown produce from the area.

Our Tavistock farm shop and deli sells the finest organic produce from across the South West and beyond, plus fresh coffee available from our coffee bar (reusable cups preferable!). Open Monday-Saturday 8:30am-5:30pm, this year the store will also be offering a ‘build your own gift box hamper’ scheme, just in time for Christmas. Your choice of our organic produce placed in a beautiful gift box will make for the perfect festive gift, or work just as well as a treat to yourself!

“Live Totally, Shop Locally”

So, for two weeks, it may be time for you to top up your farm shop deliveries and take a gander (goosey or otherwise) around your local high street to show support for small businesses in the area. We can’t wait to see what you get up to this Fiver Fest – make sure to tag both us (@eversfield_organic) and Totally Locally (@totallylocally) as well as using the hashtags #FiverFest and #enjoyfoodenjoylife when sharing your support.
