When it comes to autumn desserts, this apple crumble is unbeatable. Delicious, warming and hearty and also simple to make, it's the perfect cosy comfort food.
Peel, core and slice the apples to around 1cm thick, then toss with the golden caster sugar and cinnamon (optional), until thoroughly mixed. Then place these into an ovenproof baking dish.
In a bowl, put 175g plain flour and 110g golden caster sugar with a good pinch of salt, and give it a mix.
Slice 110g of cold butter into smaller chunks and add to the bowl. Next begin rubbing it into the flour and sugar until the mixture resembles breadcrumbs.
Pour the crumb mixture over the top of the prepared apples, evening it out using a fork.
If you like a more textured crumble top, sprinkle the crumble with oats and Demerara sugar.
Bake in the preheated oven for 35-40 minutes, until the top is golden and apples are soft when you insert a knife. Wait 10 minutes for it to cool before serving.
Recipe Note
We recommend serving with a generous dollop of clotted cream.
